The ED Conundrum: It’s NOT Getting Harder and Harder

The Many Fixes For Erectile Dysfunction

Solving the Erectile Dysfunction problem can be as simple as taking a pill. Yes, it can. Unfortunately, like many things in life, the pill doesn’t always work. But let’s give credit where credit is due. Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra all work in varying degrees for most men who take them.
The downside is, they must be prescribed by a doctor (they are drugs, after all), usually cost $10 or more per pill, are NOT covered by insurance, and the potential side effects can be serious. (I’m sure there are exceptions to the $10 cost on the Internet, and its only a matter of time until health insurance companies are pressured into paying for them).
Generics work just fine…
But even after 10 years on the market, costs for the Big 3 have not come down much, although generic versions are available for about one third the cost. And they work as good as the originals. I’ve tried the non-prescription generics and I’m very satisfied with the results.
The ‘Natural’ Solution…
But taking a prescribed drug to solve an erection problem is not the only effective method available. There are so called ‘natural’ products available at substantially lower costs. These are pills, capsules, powders, and other dispensing techniques (like under the tongue instant dissolving paper thin lozenges) that can be purchased like vitamins. Most of them don’t work (at least the eighteen or so I tried didn’t),. But to be fair, there are ‘natural’ ED products out there that DO get the job done. The trick is in finding the one that works.
You Spends Your Money and You Takes Your Chances
So in the ‘natural’ erection pill market, it’s buyer beware, trial and error, and if you find one that works, hang on to the address and hope they stay in business longer than two years.
Automatic erections…yeah, right…

None of them, not even the Big Three, create automatic erections (take a pill, go watch Seinfeld, and 30 minutes later you’re hard) The sex act is a very complex series of bodily interactions. Most of them have to be present for an erection to occur.
There are products out there claiming to make this happen (ie, take their pill and get an erection no matter what you’re thinking or doing). Maybe. I tried two…they didn’t work.
Try Pressing Some Iron
Besides the erection pills, there’s at least one other approach that seems to work, and is recommended by some urologists and physical therapists, and that’s exercise, specifically weight lifting. Lifting weights increases the body’s supply of testosterone. Low testosterone levels are common in older men. It’s a natural part of aging. It also contributes a lot to the erectile dysfunction problem.
Buy Exercise Equipment? Nah…
If you can afford it, grab a YMCA or some other commercial gym membership (Medicare will pay for it if you’re old enough) and work out two or three times a week. Nothing major…you’re not trying to become Mr. Universe. Twenty minutes per session (if you don’t break a sweat, you’re kidding yourself and just wasting time) followed by three laps in the pool, two or three times a week, and watch your sex life improve dramatically (assuming no other hinderances). At least your performance potential will climb up the chart. The partner element is beyond the scope of this article.
Taking matters in hand. Just do it…

Don’t minimize the value of masterbation, and this applies to both men and women. Like most organs in the body, if you don’t use it, you lose it. As we get older, our sexual desires usually deminish to where it’s all in our heads. Masterbation helps to keep the tool ready when its needed. And once every three months isn’t going to cut it. Come up with a fantasy that stimulates, and do it at least once a week, two or three times is better. (you, too, mom).

But for God’s sake, don’t become a ‘dirty old man’ predator. Keep your solid values and perspectives, know your age and limitations, and accept them. Meanwhile, if you have the chance to get laid, without anybody getting hurt, go for it. Sex is supposed to be fun, no matter what your age. If it isn’t, don’t do it. But if it is, hey, life is good.
I hope there’s something here you can use. Good luck!
